Modern Parenting in 2017: How to Face Up to the Challenges of Modern Parenting Without Feeling Overwhelmed or Anxious

Modern parenting can be difficult to navigate—like a  boat on a stormy sea. It’s an epic journey filled with many highs and lows. As a parent, we try to maintain the balance so we don’t tip the boat over.  With more children, partners and blended families coming on board the boat will become rocky for a while.

So what is it about parenting in 2017 that’s so hard? Children are exposed to powerful new technologies and social media as they grow up. We, as parents, we are bombarded with the endless opinions on ‘how’ we should parent, what is right and what is wrong, from the media and even our families.

Parental counselling with Diane Rooker

Diane Rooker of Pearl Counselling and Parenting Programs has an innate passion for families. As well as her formal qualifications in counselling, she also has first-hand experience of what it’s like to be a parent in 2017: she is the mother of 2 boys and 2 girls. As such, Diane brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to her counselling sessions.

Parental challenges

Diane understands the challenges of modern parenting. Many so-called experts like to wax lyrical about the do’s and don’ts of parenting and what the latest research tells us—so much so that sometimes it’s easy to feel overwhelmed, anxious, and insecure about whether we are a ‘good enough’ parent.

Of course, this doesn’t even take into account any quirks or special needs your child or children may have. Children with learning difficulties, ADHD, Asperger’s, or any physical or mental issues can add further stress and strain to an already exhausting role.

Parenting with intuition

One of Diane’s speciality services is counselling for parents. Diane will help you work through any problems you are currently facing as a parent, as well as guide you to change your thinking patterns and break any unhealthy cycles.

Diane will also help you to regain your confidence, clarity and a sense of peace as a parent by reconnecting you to your natural intuition. A lot of parenting is just a matter of being guided by your own inner ‘knowing’: listening to yourself and trusting your gut instincts.
